The current water crisis in Brazil is a cause for concern.
The issue, driven by a lack of rainfall, affects water supply to thousands of homes and also impacts the electricity supply across the entire country.
This is because about 80% of all electricity in the country is generated by hydroelectric plants, which are also experiencing low reservoir levels.
In the Central-West, South, and Southeast regions, the average reservoir levels that supply the hydroelectric plants do not exceed 20%.
With limited water, the plants cannot produce enough electricity to meet the country’s needs, increasing the risk of blackouts and making rationing and higher electricity bills more likely.
Measures like generator rental and the installation of more wind farms throughout Brazil can help reduce the risks of an energy crisis related to low water reservoir levels.
