Expansion in the Northeast driven by the water crisis
Already with a strong presence in the wind power sector in the region, Tecnogera saw a new market in the Northeast in 2017. The temporary energy solutions provider found a niche of opportunities in the local water crisis. “It was a drive that made us grow,” says Marcelo Yamane, Tecnogera’s operations director, who aims to grow 25% in the region in 2018.
According to him, the expertise in emergency structures for water transposition enabled contracts. Last year, Tecnogera opened a branch in the state of Bahia, in line with its investment plan. The company’s experience in the area dates back to its founding 11 years ago. In 2015, its generators were responsible for pumping dead volume water from the Cantareira System reservoir, which supplies 8.5 million people in the greater São Paulo area.
Diversification into new segments
But the presence in the Northeast region was not limited to this area. The executive says the company saw opportunities in other segments, such as industrial, construction, commerce, and retail, and is confident with the good results. “Having a branch and being closer to clients enabled a planned performance, despite the crisis,” observes Yamane.
Differentiated approach
He believes the company’s success in the region was not just due to a window of opportunities, but rather the type of approach, which brings engineering closer to the client, going beyond the generator and bringing accessories, equipment, and cables, so the client can focus on their area of expertise. “This approach of providing complete customized solutions gives us a differential that allows us to enter segments that demand this type of expertise,” the executive notes.
Regional coverage strategy
Tecnogera already had a unit in Rio Grande do Norte, which served renewable contracts. The Bahia branch, located in the city of Simões Filho, allowed the company to explore opportunities in other segments in the Northeast and the state itself, as well as prospect business in the Midwest region of Brazil. “It was a way to improve our coverage,” reveals Yamane. The company also trained the team and deployed its own fleet of equipment.
States in focus
Bahia is the state leading Tecnogera’s contracts in the Northeast, along with renewables. Yamane says Pernambuco is another state where the company has established a presence. The equipment profile, with an average of 450 kVA, is also another differential to serve various states.
Future expansion plans
Despite growth in the Northeast and eyes on the Midwest, seeking contracts in the North of the country is not out of Tecnogera’s plans. “We see important movements in Pará, which could be a focus of activity,” he notes.
Highlight project
This week, Tecnogera was responsible for providing the energy security solution for the match between Santos and Nacional of Uruguay, for the Copa Libertadores da América, held last Thursday, March 16. The match gathered over 20,000 fans and was secured by the company’s generators, which provided 2,300 kVA of energy.
