Amid the supply crisis, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Eduardo Braga, confirmed that the government will implement an emergency plan to ensure the country’s energy supply during peak demand hours, between 2 PM and 5 PM.
The focus is on encouraging the use of private generators by businesses, hotels, and shopping centers in the afternoon, and energy production by industries and independent producers. According to government estimates, using generators alone could yield 1,500 megawatts.
With the worsening of the electrical sector crisis, financial concerns are no longer the government’s main focus, which now prioritizes ensuring supply as the highest priority. “These measures will be taken so that we can navigate this critical moment with greater ease,” explained the minister at a ceremony in Congress.
The embryo of a broad advertising campaign, appealing for voluntary consumption reduction, is also at the Presidential Palace awaiting President Dilma’s approval to proceed.
