Favorable winds for wind energy

Brazil has reached the 8th position in the global ranking of installed wind energy capacity, with 12.76 GW, surpassing Canada. The sector grew by 26.5% in 2017, representing 8.3% of the national energy matrix and supplying 11% of the country, with a highlight on the Northeast region. Tecnogera has already commissioned over 2,000 turbines and provides complete solutions for the sector, including power generators for construction and load banks for testing.

Brazil reaches eighth position in global wind energy ranking

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) released, on February 15th, the new global ranking of installed wind energy capacity, and Brazil appears in the eighth position, with 12.76 GW, surpassing Canada, which has 12.3 GW. It is worth noting that the country entered the GWEC ranking in 2015 in the tenth position and has been gaining one position per year since then.

Global and national growth of the wind sector

According to the report, which provides global wind energy data, 52.57 GW of power were added to global production in 2017. With this addition, the installed capacity worldwide reached 539.58 GW. In Brazil alone, growth reached 26.5% during the period.

With nearly 13 GW of installed capacity, over 500 wind farms, and approximately 6,600 wind turbines in operation, the expectation is to reach 19 GW by 2023, an expansion that will be favored by recent auctions held in the segment.

Participation in the Brazilian energy matrix

According to the Brazilian Wind Energy Association – ABEEólica, this strong performance establishes wind power as responsible for 8.3% of the national energy matrix, reaching 11% of the country and more than 60% of the Northeast region, especially during the ‘wind harvest’ season, which runs from June to November, when the best winds for this type of energy generation occur.

Leading states in wind production

The list of Brazilian states with the highest wind energy production includes: Rio Grande do Norte, Bahia, Ceará, and Rio Grande do Sul.

Economic and environmental impacts

The significant growth of the wind sector, in addition to strengthening Brazil as a producer of clean and renewable energy, also benefits the entire supply chain of the segment, creating jobs and contributing to the country’s economic growth.

Tecnogera: solutions for the wind sector

In the wind sector, Tecnogera plays an active role as a provider of complete solutions and has surpassed the milestone of over 2,000 turbines commissioned in wind farms across Brazil.

Power generators in wind farm construction

While power generators are essential during the construction phase of new wind farms, as these installations are often built far from transmission networks, load banks are used in commissioning, which corresponds to the testing and evaluation phase of the operation of all equipment, machinery, and installations of a wind farm.

Function of load banks

Load banks simulate the consumption of generated energy and thus detect and resolve potential instability points. Together, generators and load banks prevent failures, ensure the perfect operation of new wind farms, and are indispensable for the safe expansion of the segment.

With operations throughout the national territory and Latin America and owning the newest and most modern fleet of equipment in the market, Tecnogera has been the most frequent partner of companies operating in the wind sector.
