The largest data center in the world was built in 1990 in Chicago, United States. Covering an area of 102,000 m², it is one of nearly 1,500 data centers operating in the country, a setup that requires a significant amount of power.

Critical Energy Requirements

As these facilities house servers and equipment for processing and storing large volumes of data, power is essential to ensure uninterrupted and secure operation. Lighting, low temperatures, and constant climate control are fundamental conditions for a data center to be competitive in the market and earn the trust of increasingly demanding clients.

Thus, relying solely on the traditional utility provider is not enough. Private plants and generators need to be part of the energy mix.

And, like generators, another important piece of equipment in this process is the load bank, which is used during the commissioning phase of a new data center.

Used in the commissioning of the power generator, load banks test and ensure constant supply to the power system, allowing machinery and equipment to be certified, guaranteeing full operational conditions.

Success Story: ODATA Project

In the data center market, Tecnogera played a role throughout the commissioning phase of Odata’s data processing center, DCSP 01, built in Santana de Parnaíba, a city in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Inaugurated in May 2017, the project involved investments of R$ 400 million.

In this project, Tecnogera’s solution, involving load banks, was crucial during the construction and testing phase, providing all the necessary support to ensure the data center was ready to operate, ensuring system stability and the safety of installed equipment. In total, more than 3 MVA of power and 6000 MW in load banks were provided.

Tecnogera’s strong performance in the implementation of the ODATA data center project has accredited the company for new challenges, as expectations for this market are quite promising.

According to consultancy Frost & Sullivan, the Latin American data center market moved US$ 2.87 billion in 2017. Of this total, Brazil accounted for 47.6%. By 2021, data centers are expected to generate revenues of US$ 4.37 billion in Latin America, which will create significant demands for the temporary power sector.
