Cooling: what it is, how it works, and types of systems

The cooling system controls the minimum and maximum temperature of the combustion engine, maintaining the ideal working temperature. It prevents excessive expansion, premature wear, reduces fuel consumption, and emission of polluting gases. Two types: air cooling (atmospheric dissipation) and water cooling (thermosiphon or forced circulation). Thermosiphon: cooling liquid, fan, radiator, water pump, thermostat valve. Forced circulation uses a centrifugal pump. Generators use a thermosiphon system. Components: radiator cools liquid through air driven by the engine’s fan.
